What is the difference between a shielded and non-shielded inductive proximity sensor?
Shielded sensors have a shield around the detection coil, which allows them to be mounted flush into the surrounding metalwork, whereas a non-shielded proximity sensor doesn’t have shielding around the detection coil. This allows the sensor to have longer sensing range, but it mustn’t be mounted protruding from the surrounding metal work.
Always keep to the manufacturer’s specified mounting distances from surrounding metal work, or other sensors, to help reduce electromagnetic influences.
