Why doesn't my inductive proximity sensor detect all metals at the same distance?

The stated sensing distance of an inductive proximity sensor is for carbon steel (Fe360) that is 1 mm thick. So, the less ferrous content a metal has, the shorter the sensing distance will be. Please refer to the sensor manufacturer’s reduction correction factors for different ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
