Why do some 3-wire inductive proximity sensors use a 4-pin connector?
A number of 3-wire sensors come complete with a 4-pin connector. For example: terminals 1 and 3 for the power supply, terminal 4 for the load, and terminal 2 isn't used/is missing. This allows 3- and 4-wire sensors to use the same common cable connector. This then reduces the need to hold stock of two different types of connectors/cable assemblies.
