How large does a hole need to be for a photoelectric sensor beam to function correctly?

Company: Omron
If a photoelectric sensor is being used through a hole, then the size of the hole should be the size of the sensor lens. But if the hole material isn't thin (for example one or two mm thick), then the size of the hole should be increased to prevent the hole sizes blocking the beam. This is because the beam angle widens as it moves away from the sensor lens.
