What type of photoelectric sensor is best for dirty environments?

Company: Omron
Thru-beam photoelectric sensors are generally the best choice, as the light beam only needs to travel in direction from the sender unit to the separate receiver unit. This makes them more reliable at detecting objects than sensors with the sender and receiver housed inside the same unit. Examples of these are retro-reflective or diffuse photoelectric sensors.
