Can 33250A, 33220A and 33500B generate noise in specified frequency range?
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)SummaryExplain how to generate noise in specified frequency range.QuestionCan 33250A, 33220A and 33500B generate noise in specified frequency range? For example, 50kHz to 10MHz. If instrument cannot do that directly, can users use Benchlink Waveform Builder to generate?AnswerThe variable bandwidth noise is new in the 33500 family. The previous generators just have noise from 0 to some fixed frequency you cannot adjust. Unfortunately, even with the new features in the 33500, you cannot do a “Bandpass” noise (from 40 to 50 kHz, for example). So, there are 2 different ways which can achieve the behavior. 1. Insert a bandpass filter between the generator and the DUT. 2. The second is to use an application, such as MATLAB, to create a pseudo-random noise file with the frequency characteristics users want, then download that into the function generator as an arbitrary waveform. The problem with the MATLAB method is that it will repeat a pattern at the repeat rate of the arb. ex, if your arb lasts 1 second, your noise pattern will be repeated once every second. The built-in noise function only repeats after ~50 years.
