Can I rename an instrument instead of using the default Instr1, Instr2... naming convention?

Yes. Click on InstrN in the Name column of the “Configure Instruments” tab and enter a new instrument name.Note: It is best to rename the instrument before starting a scan. Once scan data (datalog) exists, the Name field becomes locked requiring you to either copy the configuration to a new configuration or delete the datalog(s).
